Iranian Ceramics As Art

Join Wit & Wine curator and Director of Research for the
Arthur M. Sackler Foundation, Trudy S. Kawami, Ph.D., in a slide
presentation that explores the aesthetics of the 5,000 year-old
tradition of fine ceramics. The ancient role of the patron and the
artist is revealed through works from the exhibition and their excavated
counterparts.

Join Wit & Wine curator, Trudy S. Kawami, Ph.D., Director
of Research for the Arthur M. Sackler Foundation for a direct engagement
with the complex and witty vessels used for storing, serving and
drinking wine in ancient Iran. Sculptural aspects of the ceramics
and the artistic manipulation of the clays will be considered, as
well as the tactile qualities of the pieces.

and Stephen Hannock for a conversation about the use of landscape
as inspirational image for their work. Followed by a reception and
informal gallery talks in The Power of Place: The Berkshires

Wild and Edible

Native Americans and early colonial settlers relied on wild
growing plants for survival. An easy walk will bring us to areas
where we can examine these plants in their native habitats and discuss
how they were important sources of food and medicine, and how they
were used to create clothing and dye. For all ages and experience
levels.

Many of the great Persian language poets used wine as a poetic metaphor
for beauty, love, passion and the search for meaning. In celebration
of the Wit & Wine: A New Look at Ancient Iranian Ceramics from
the Arthur M. Sackler Foundation exhibition, enjoy traditional
Persian delights with complementary wines selected by Jim Nejaime
from Nejaime's Wine Cellar and poetic verse by Ethan Dufault. Curator
Trudy S. Kawami, Ph.D., from the Arthur M. Sackler Foundation will
speak about use and enjoyment of wine in ancient Iran (Persia).

History of the Berkshires
