Summer Camps 2006

Half-Day Camps: members $100; non-members $125, unless otherwise specified.

Registration includes a $50 non-refundable administrative fee. Partial refunds (minus the administrative fee) for cancellations up to four weeks prior to the first day of camp. No refunds for cancellations within four weeks of the first day of camp. *Grade level of camp is grade entering in September 2006. Preschool experience required for campers entering Kindergarten.

Global Games and Traditions
July 3, 5-7, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Grab your passport to global adventure and sample snacks, make toys, and learn about games and customs from different cultures. Discover people, plants, animals, and landscapes from different regions of the world. Globe-trotters will complete a fun travel log as they journey from adventure to adventure. No camp on July 4. Four-day registration: members $95, non-members $115.

Pond Creature Quest
July 10-14, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Have some muddy fun at the Berkshire Museum and Wild Acres Wildlife Sanctuary. First learn about pond animals in the Aquarium. Explore animal sounds and tracks, make crafts, and play games. Then head out to a local pond to observe these animals in their own habitat.

Take a Hike
July 10-14, 9 a.m.-3pm.
Grades 2-4
Get down and dirty as you search the great outdoors for unique plants and animals. Play camouflage games, keep a nature journal, adopt a schoolyard tree, and hike Pittsfield State Forest during this fun-filled week. This camp takes place at Conte Community School and includes field trips.
Plus $10 for transportation to Pittsfield State Forest.

Farm Life
July 17-21, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Cock-a-doodle-do! Pull out your straw hats and overalls and become a farmer. Sow a mini-garden, learn about garden life cycles, learn how to plant and harvest, meet farm animals, and make butter. Enjoy snacks from local farm stands. Plus $13 for transportation to High Lawn Farm and admission to Hancock Shaker Village.

Down and Dirty: Berkshire Air, Earth, and Water

July 17-21, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Grades 2-4
What do you get when you mix dirt, water, and air? Explore the clear sky above and the murky dirt and water beneath to find out. Complete your adventure with a hike to Balance Rock. This camp meets at Conte Community School and includes field trips.
Plus $10 for transportation to Balance Rock.

Digging Dinos
July 24-28, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Bring the world of dinosaurs to life through games, songs, art projects, stories, and scientific exploration. Find fact from fiction about everyone's favorite prehistoric creatures and learn how scientists use fossils to uncover clues about life long ago.

Naturalist Investigation
July 24-28, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Grades 2-4
Become a naturalist! Stroll through nature trails collecting specimens for your own earth art masterpiece. Plant a Native American garden and hike Mount Greylock. This camp meets at Conte Community School and includes field trips. Plus $10 for transportation to Mt. Greylock.

On Stage & Backstage

July 24-28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Grades 4-6
Campers enhance their acting skills and learn what it takes to produce a show on stage with the Berkshire Theatre Festival’s BTF Plays! Improvisational skits, theater games, movement exercises, and storytelling help campers to build dramatic skills and gain self-confidence. Participants make props, costumes, and experiment with lighting to create a set for a final performance.
*Plus a $5 dollar materials fee.

On Stage with the Berkshire Theatre Festival

Grades K-2 July 31-August 4, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades 3-5 July 31-August 4, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
All the world's a stage during summer theater camp at the Berkshire Museum, presented by BTF Plays! Campers build dramatic skills and gain self-confidence through improvisational skits, theater games, movement exercises, and storytelling. Our young performers bask in the limelight in a finale performance.

Bugs!
July 31-August 4, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Who have jaws one-third the size of their bodies, produce their own “lighting,” and make up about seventy five percent of the earth’s population? Bugs! Meet dramatic and exotic species like scorpions at the Museum, then head outside to get know some Berkshire bugs. Make bug art, play games, learn to “talk” like a cricket, and more.

The Art of Puppetry
August 7-11, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Discover the many forms of puppetry, such as hand, finger, and shadow puppets. Learn skills to make a puppet look convincingly alive. Create miniature theater stages for hours of animated play.

Space Camp
August 14-18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades 1-3
Astronauts, put on your space suits and discover the solar system! Learn how to identify constellations and planets. Through stories, poems, and works of art, we will explore the myths and legends behind the cosmos. Our space ship will land for a special show at the Williams College Planetarium.
Plus $10 for transportation to Williams College Planetarium

“Roar, Buzz, Hoot, Hiss, Chirp:” Animal Discovery

August 21-25, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Grades K-2
Learn about the creatures that roam the Earth, including insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals. Interact with fascinating animals, from the native to the exotic, and get up close while they eat and play. Enjoy games and crafts, and venture into the field to observe creatures in action.

Stomp & Clap: Step Dance
August 21-25, 9-12 p.m.
Grades 2-5
Learn how to step with Youth Alive! Create rhythmic sound by clapping your hands, stomping your feet, and chanting patterns. Use buckets to create musical beats. Youth Alive and campers will perform step-to-step and beat-to-beat in Saturday morning’s family performance.
Each camper will receive two free passes for the family performance.
