Aquarium Exploration
This activity-based program focuses on the traits and behaviors of aquatic life in the Aquarium. Through observation of corals, local and exotic fish, and live invertebrates, students investigate environmental adaptations.

Mammal Adaptations
Compare and contrast different pelts, skulls, and teeth to determine how Berkshire animals are adapted for survival. Using what they have learned about animal adaptations, students identify a mystery skull through careful examination.

Playing Around with Simple Machines

Playing Around with Simple Machines
Discover how simple and complex machines make Alexander Calder's push and pull toys spin, bob and wobble. Students are challenged to play with Calder toy replicas and identify the mechanisms that make them work. Participants will also test unusual wheels to see what kind of motion they create.

Playing Around with Simple Machines

The Mohicans: Pre & Post-Contact  (1 hour)
This hands-on exploration of traditional Mohican life-ways explores interactions between the original Berkshire natives and European settlers.

Ancient Lives  (1 hour)
March - June 2008
Journey back to the ancient world to learn about religious beliefs, mummification, art, language, and everyday life through artifacts and activities in the newly reinstalled Ancient Civilizations gallery.  Select either China or Egypt.

Feigenbaum Hall of Innovation  Coming Winter-Spring 2008!
This new 3000-square foot interactive exhibit will explore the process of innovation and the unique innovations that have come from the Berkshires historically, in the present, and in the future. Made possible by The Feigenbaum Foundation.

What was the first town ever to be electrified?  Where was the very first court case freeing an American slave on the basis of human rights?  Inspired by Berkshire innovation stories like these, students launch into mind-expanding activities that build creativity, problem-solving, communication, and design skills.  Stay tuned for grade-appropriate program developments through the Museum's education e-newsletter or call our education manager at (413) 443-7171, ext. 19.
