Aquarium Adventures (ages 2 - 4)
Fridays, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Every Friday, toddlers enjoy playtime and a story, and meet a different aquarium animal each week. Learn how insects play a part in each featured animal’s life.

Ants, Bees, and Butterflies Gallery Discovery
Saturdays, July 8 – October 21, 1 p.m.
Wednesdays, July 12 – August 30, 1 p.m.

Watch the progress from week to week as butterflies change from caterpillars into full-grown butterflies. Inspect ants up close as they dig their way through an ant farm. Watch bees do their busy work in an observation hive. Learn new things about a different insect each week. Take home a do-it-yourself craft.

Hopkins Memorial Forest and Canopy Walk
Friday, July 14, 1 p.m.–4 p.m.
Get an exhilarating “bugs-eye view” of nature. The Hopkins Canopy Walk is a unique habitat at the top of the tallest trees in Berkshire County (60 feet above ground). Spend an hour in the trees exploring.* Then come down to earth and learn about local insects found in the Buxton Garden, a one-acre recreation of a Victorian farm garden, and make your own butterfly feeder.

Members: $15 adults, $7 children ages 10-18, free to children under 10 (ground-level activities only).

*Canopy Walk participants must be at least 10 years old, weigh at least 80 pounds, and be able to climb ladders up to the catwalk. Safety equipment provided.


“Bug the Expert” Gallery Discovery
Sundays, July 30 and October 8, 1 p.m.
Bring in beautiful, mysterious, or strange bugs from your yard, garden, or attic for identification by master entomologist Lisa Provencher. “Bug” her with questions about the life, history, weird behavior, and legends of these insects. Bring in your specimens, dead or alive (but not squished, please!) in a clear, sealed container with air holes.

Bugapalooza Family Day
Sunday, August 6, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Buzz in for a creepy, crawly day of family fun. Visit a real butterfly tent on the museum lawn. Enjoy improvisational performances by local dancers costumed as butterflies. Come face-to-face with live bugs like scorpions and silk moths. Flutter, fly, and jump in movement workshops with dancers from Studio One. Create beautiful butterflies and busy bees in hands-on activities. Come disguised as your favorite bug to participate in the Bug Runway show at 2 p.m.

Bronx Zoo Trip
Sunday, August 20
Experience the spectacular splendor of butterflies. Journey through lushly planted pathways and explore a 5,000 square foot greenhouse brimming with more than 1,000 North American butterflies. Ride a praying mantis, grasshopper, ladybug, or firefly on the insect carousel. Later, travel through forests, jungles, and deserts surrounded by more than 4,000 animals.

Your ticket includes transportation, entrance to the zoo, Zoo Shuttle (unlimited), Bengali Express Monorail, Skyfari Cable Car (one-way), Children’s Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest, Butterfly Garden, and Bug Carousel.

Wally’s Birthday Family Celebration
Monday, October 9, 1 p.m.– 3 p.m.
Dinosaurs like Wally roamed the earth 245 million years ago, but insects have been around even longer--155 million years earlier! The Berkshire Museum invites you and bugs everywhere to Wally’s ninth birthday party. At 2 p.m. we’ll cut the birthday cake. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., transform yourself into one of Wally’s favorite bug friends—a dragonfly—by creating your own giant insect wings to wear.

* Admission is free all day long!
*Space and supplies limited; timed tickets available beginning at 1 p.m. First-come first-served.
